Report: Florida dismisses DE Alex McCalister
Florida defensive end Alex McCalister is reportedly no longer a Gator.
According to the Gainesville Sun, McCalister has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. He hasn't played since he suffered an injured foot against South Carolina on Nov. 14.
The paper also reported that McCalister had been considering heading to the NFL.
Had the redshirt junior not been dismissed, there still was a chance his playing days at UF were over. He recently sent in paperwork to the NFL and was considering foregoing his senior season to enter the draft.
McCalister has 26 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in nine games this season. He was one of three Florida players suspended for the team's season opener. It's unclear if the suspension and the dismissal are for related offenses.
He had two sacks against Kentucky in September and 2.5 sacks in Florida's SEC East-clinching win against Vanderbilt in November.
McCalister was a three-star recruit and the No. 26 weakside defensive end in the class of 2012 according to Rivals.
